paul mitchell in 2 sequential posts! the hearts of studio 55

it's something i strive to do in every shot….

to not only get the image…the "picture" if you will, but the heart and soul in the person that is front of camera.  some of my subjects, i have the honor of knowing for a long time.  some of my subjects, i just get to meet before we start shooting, but when i hold my camera up, somehow i feel that i zoom in square on the heart and soul…it's just something that my eye does with my camera.

when this happens, my own heart leaps.

to be able to see straight there….it is a gift that i get to hand over to that someone.

"look!!!!  i see you!!  and you are beautiful!  this is who you are….this is what you need to see…"

my girls and brooks at studio 55, well, they all are part of me and the business that i run.  they handle all of my hair and make-up…they laugh with me, share with me, pamper me, pray for me, and i think they MAY love me too :))))

girls...

i pray you see your hearts and souls, as beautifully as i see and saw them in my camera, ad every day.

and brooks…buddy, you've been nearly a brother to me…i hope you know i think you're pretty awesome too :).

xoxox you all!

love you guys so much!!

breaking news….have you heard?

if i have said it once, i'll say it 100 times...

i am surrounded by the most inspiring, talented, beautiful (inside and out), giving, people on the planet.

surrounded in my book, does not mean that they live near me.

the people surrounding my life that inspire me in such ways are of every age group,

and from all over this country.

HOWEVER, ryan devlin, is one of those people that i DO get to live by.

when ryan and i talk…it's almost dangerous.  the ideas we have, the excitement that we can't contain, the brainstorming that goes on (that's the same as ideas right? he he he).  i leave a conversation with him, inspired, energetic, wiser, and even more hopeful.

and although i HAVE seen him in action, teaching in his classroom, as i think about how he affects ME  this way, i have a deeper understanding of how his students must feel being educated by him.

last year, ryan was the the "Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year."

OF COURSE, we were thrilled, and proud!

i had taken his pictures, and even my london had the opportunity to appear in one of the videos he made for his application.

BUT TODAY…there is AMAZING NEWS.

it is announced today, that ryan is 1 of 4 finalists for the national teacher of the year!

what incredible news for an incredible teacher and guy!

hmmmm…and guess who shot his headshots for this?  :)))))

here are some of the images that I took for ryan and the national committee to use for this amazing accomplishment.

enjoy and enjoy ryan's quotes as well!

“I want my students to become as curious as Albert Einstein, as determined as Michael Jordan, as imaginative as Walt Disney, as articulate as Martin Luther King, Jr., as innovative as Steve Jobs, as clever as Benjamin Franklin, as brave as Rosa Parks, as kind as Mister Rogers, and as wholehearted as Mother Teresa.” -Ryan Devlin,      2013 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year 2014 Finalist, National Teacher of the Year Brockway Area Senior High School Teacher My Friend :)

My Friend :)

congrats ryan!

so proud to call you "friend!"

Here is the "official press release!"

home and living...

did you ever have a time in your life that you know the people brought into it were brought into your life for a REASON?

in my life, that has happened, even a few times.

it happened just a few weeks back actually, and i'm so excited to share a bit of this person with you now.

Greeley2jwblog.jpg
(i know there are way too many parenthesis, but have you read "heaven is for real"?  he and his wife rebecca are part of the book!)

stephen is the son, of honestly, two of some of my absolutely most favorite people on earth.  (if you know me personally, you have heard about charlie's uncle earle & aunt sylvia).  every few years, the "guys" come together (earle is from indiana & stephen & his son are from colorado), to go back to the homestead of sylvia & my mother in law.  there's great hunting on the hill & i know the homecooking is a great draw too :).

the story in a nutshell is, this november on their hunting trip, stephen suffered 5 heart attacks.  the outcome looked grim for quite a while.

Greeley3_1jwblog.jpg

he not only pulled through, he pulled through with grace and even more wisdom, and is actually releasing a book about it.  he contacted me a bit ago about setting up a trip to colorado to chronicle his life.

a life he gets a second chance at living...a second chance to tell the story of...

so Charlie and I flew off to Colorado....right into the arms of a family and a church that i wondered if we could leave.

Greeley Sunday4_43jwblog.jpg

this man has the integrity of my own precious husband, the wisdom of his amazing father, and the heart of my dad that i miss so much.

Greeley3_2jwblog.jpg

and as so many of my projects pan out, this project took my heart in a great, great way.  i shot stephen in many aspects of his life...

 at home....

at home....

Greeley Saturday5_113jwblog.jpg

at work...

with his family...

and just times being...stephen...

i came home with thousands and thousands and THOUSANDS of images.

and as the trip weighed on my mind...as the images came back to life...as the story began to unfold...

i met grief.

i held hurt.

i saw love.

i witnessed peace.

i shared hope.

and the story has not ended.

please visit my dear cousin, Stephen...his wife, his family, his ministry and his story at

and this is just a tiny snippet of who he is...

"My newest book ... 'To Bind the Brokenhearted' ... will be available Memorial Day Weekend. I wrote this book while recovering this past winter from five heart attacks followed by open heart surgery in which I had three by-passes and one valve replacement. With complete honesty and none of the, "too holy to be angry at God" stuff, I confront my feelings of fear, anger, frustration, and doubt. This book is a great read for anyone who has gone ... or is going ... through some of life's toughest moments. You will find this book to be encouraging, enlightening, and hopefully - uplifting as you deal with the inevitable difficulties that are part of all our lives.

To purchase your copy please contact my office at LynnK@greeleywes.org and ask for your copy of To Bind the Brokenhearted. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to sign it for you before sending it back ... just let Lynn know that's what you'd like.

Thank you ... and may your heart always be whole!"

he's my cousin and a new treasured friend...stephen e. wilson.

"As a woman and a professional, appearance is a big key to my success and fulfillment. These days my work is getting exposure among some of the world's biggest media personalities and international executives...and thanks to Joelle's spirit and skill, the image of my brand continues to help open doors. Most importantly, I love what I see when I look at my headshots, and having that confidence in how I come across has produced the biggest impact of all."

“Joelle’s photography speaks for itself. Her photos are always original, high-quality, and stunning. Joelle has dedicated herself to this profession and is constantly studying poses and editing techniques. My headshots are being used on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Pintrest and within multiple educational publications. They have also appeared on various websites, YouTube videos, programs, and flyers.

Having professional photos of myself taken has proved to be quite advantageous.”

mr. devlin...finalist for teacher of the year

pssst, i have a secret.  the "cool, fantastic, brockway teacher" that EVERYBODY wants to have....

yeah mr. devlin.  well, i have a connection :).  he dates my super sweet sister sherri.

not only is mr. d., an amazing teacher....not only is he privy to all of our crazy family functions...

he is ALSO a HUGE hit with the three resident watt kids :).

other than the  personal shout outs i have about mr. devlin, the point that we are celebrating most is that he is one of the 12 finalists in the state, nominated for "Teacher of the Year."  this is an outstanding honor, and he is actually the youngest educator ever to be nominated for this award.

of course, the brother needed some fantastic images for all his recent publicity :).

ryan, we think you are amazing and we are really, really proud of you!
